The Oswego Music Hall welcomes headliner Redd and The Paper Flowers on Saturday, Nov. 7. Local musician Mark Wahl opens at the McCrobie Civic Center, 41 Lake St., Oswego. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 7:30 p.m.
The folk blue grass band hails from Knoxville, Tennessee where its members met through open mics and mutual friends. The line-up includes Katie Adams on upright bass, Colleen d’Alelio playing cello, Gavin Gregg coming in on the mandolin and Redd Daugherty on guitar.
They released their debut album in May of 2025. “Appalachian Bell Jar” is a testament to the people, history and beauty of eastern Tennessee and greater Appalachia. It voices local challenges with poverty and addiction and honors true love and friendship with a warm and welcoming sound.
Altogether unique, while still comfortingly familiar, the band’s second album, “Dead Little Thing,” explores the struggles its members faced in the wake of the murder of Daugherty’s close friend and mentor Jason Cooper. Following the tragedy, she inherited his band and instrument music store, Rush’s Music, which supports 90 schools and roughly 3,000 students in the area. Much of the band’s history is now interwoven with that experience, bringing its members closer together as they navigate loss and grief while learning how to run a business.
Self-coined as “Appalachian Jazz” or “Living Room Folk,” the band evokes an intimate and cozy atmosphere, like listening to music in the comfort of your own home. For a preview, click on this YouTube video. To learn more about the band, visit www.reddandthepaperflowers.com.
Oswego Music Hall concerts are made possible in part with funding by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the governor and New York Legislature. Other major supporters are the City of Oswego and Shineman Foundation.
